Actions and Procedures for the Maturity Study of the project “OPEN MALL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF METEORA”
The study concerns the redevelopment and enhancement of the open-air shopping center of Kalambaka, in the municipality of Meteora. The intervention area presents degradation in terms of accessibility, as some of the sidewalks do not have ramps for people with disabilities, while in some other areas there are no guide rails for the blind. In addition, in several points of the intervention area, there are no defined outdoor parking spaces, resulting in chaotic parking. The area is characterized by relatively dense construction with few open spaces to serve the residents. Some of the open spaces require immediate redevelopment and formation (Platia Platano, municipal parking area). Due to the increased visitor traffic in the city due to Meteora, there is a need to upgrade the area by expanding the infrastructure of open spaces to serve the residents and visitors.
The objectives of the study concern the satisfaction of the new needs of the purchasing public, the strengthening and promotion of entrepreneurship, the revitalization of the area, the support of local development policies, and the further activation of local partners in local development issues. The main objective is to increase the competitiveness of the local market by creating adequate infrastructure and high-level services that focus on providing the best purchasing experience, so as to stimulate the local economy in general.
For the upgrading of the study area, interventions are proposed that improve the living standards of residents, the economic activity of the local economy, and ensure accessibility to the study area. The interventions proposed by the study are divided into two (2) categories, namely, clearance and demolition works and landscaping works.
A) DEMOLITION WORKS
The aforementioned works concern the demolition of existing constructions. Specifically, they include:
- Demolition of fences, paving and concrete
- Dismantling existing signposts, asphalt layers and road pavement layers
Β) LANDSCAPING WORKS
Formation works include:
- Reconstruction and widening of sidewalks
- Paving of sidewalks and roads
- Reconstruction of the junction
- Installation of special plates and blind guide rails
- Construction of special ramps for disabled people
- Asphalt paving
- Marking of pedestrian crossings
- Formation of parking spaces
- Delineation of taxi parking spaces
- Construction, delineation and formation of planting beds
- Installation of tree trunk paving
- Planting of trees
- Construction and installation of pergolas
- Construction and installation of seating
- Electrical installation and placement of new lighting poles
- Placement and delineation of waste baskets
- Installation of protective columns
- Replacement of railings
